Description
This is a quite rare 1883
"Ten Cents"
from the British
"Straits Settlements"
. It is one of just 610,000 pieces that were struck this year at the Heaton mint in Birmingham, England for the colony. It has been certified and graded Very Fine 35 by the prestigious third-party grading service, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or NGC.
The Settlements became the modern nation of Malaysia. The
"Straits Settlements"
were first established in 1826 by the East India Company. At first governed from India, they became a British Crown Colony in 1867. The
"colony"
ended after World War II.
Coins had first been struck for the Straits Settlements by the
"British East India Company"
in 1845.
Following the dissolution of the East India Company in 1858, the Straits Settlements were transferred to the
"India Office"
in London.
Weight: 2.71 Gram, 18 Millimeter, .800 Silver. Mintage: 610,000.

The Coin:
A very scarce coin, and highly collected. It saw use and earned its way in the world for a time. Then, thankfully, someone spotted it and put it away. It has been certified and graded by the
prestigious third-party grading service Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or
(NGC)
.
