1953 Oldsmobile Dealer Light Box Transparency Set w/Original Dealer Folder.

This collection includes
three transparencies
and
one folder
:
- 1953 Oldsmobile Super 88 Coupe
- 1953 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible Coupe and Super 88 Two Door Sedan
- 1953 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible Coupe and Ninety-Eight Four Door Sedan
The 1953 Oldsmobile dealer transparency set originally included six transparencies and the one storage folder. Included in this lot are three of the transparencies and the rare dealer storage folder.
These transparencies were mounted in light boxes displayed in an Oldsmobile dealer showroom to advertise the new car models. The back lighting results in a vibrantly colored image of the model being advertised. Now rare to find, these transparencies were changed out every model year and were often thrown away or lost to time. These are fine examples of mid-century photography, industrial and advertising art. Each transparency measures approx. 21"x16.5". These need to be mounted in a light box to be truly appreciated.
The Super 88 Convertible Coupe and Super 88 Two Door Sedan transparency is in what I would call 'very good' to 'excellent' condition with no delamination, tears, or pin holes/punctures. The color is outstanding.
The Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible Coupe and Ninety-Eight Four Door Sedan transparency is in what I would call 'very good' to 'excellent' condition with no delamination, tears, or pin holes/punctures. The color is outstanding.
The Super 88 Coupe transparency is in what I would call 'fair' condition as it has some surface issues (crazing and delamination of the outer layer), pin holes in the outer corners, one pin hole in the image area and wear and tear that is typical for an item of its age. It presents well when back lit, so it still offers plenty of aesthetic appeal for those who wish to round out their collection.
The folder is in what I would consider 'good' condition for its age. It has wear on the edges and corners and a few tears on the flaps. I'd have to imagine that one of these folders is a rare find.
