Description
We are working as partners in conjunction with Gettysburg Relics to offer some very nice American Civil War relics for sale.THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM - THE WILSON FARM - RARE Location in the epicenter of the battle - Found October 2002 - Relic condition lot of 8 mostly unknown iron relics, including a saddle staple? and at least one shell fragment and large old nail, which have been preserved. Total weight is 4.8 ounces
These relics were
found on the farm at the epicenter of the battlefield that is enclosed by the Cornfield Road, Smoketown Road and Old Hagerstown Pike (known today as the Wilson Farm). During the battle, this area was between the Cornfield and the Dunker Church and also included a portion of the East Woods. It saw heavy action throughout the morning of the battle (I have included a photo of a map that shows the location of the farm during the morning of the battle). This is one of the few farms on the heart of the battlefield that was still in private hands (until purchased for preservation recently) and saw intense fighting and significant bloodshed. The artifacts were found by a relic hunter in October of 2002 (with permission). A letter of provenance will be included.
Thank you for viewing!
