Description
This is a very old decorative object from the late1800’s.It is a large and beautifully made mercury thermometer that probably decorated a Victorian Parlor or Office.
The housing of the obelisk appears to be chrome and is mounted to a large finished slate base.
A chain fence surrounds the whole thing and it looks to be emulating the Grand Tour souvenirs of that same era.
The temperature scale is calibrated in both Roemer and Celsius and printed on what appears to be a milk glass back plate.
The back plate is signed Z. G. Cramer, Zurich.
Its' size and weight make it an very impressive display piece.
This measure 6.25” W x 6.25” D x 10.75” tall and weighs 5.5 pounds.
There are a couple of chips on the bottom of the slate base and a hairline crack near the bottom of the scale plate.
The finish has light oxidation that I consider to be age appropriate ware.
Otherwise there is no damage such as dings, dents, or breaks to it is in generally good vintage condition.
