    Description

    This is a bullet from the Civil War guard camp of the 5th N.H for Confederate prisoners of war at Point Lookout, Maryland. Point Lookout was established shortly after the battle of Gettysburg, Pa. (July 1-3, 1863). Federal Infantry detailed at Point Lookout were 2nd N.H., 5th N.H., 12th N.H., and the 2nd Wisconsin Artillery. Today 50% of the prison site is under water due to erosion. This .58 caliber minie was recovered by a local resident early in the 1970's.
