These are Genuine Civil War (dug up) Union Army Spencer Cartridges. These Ten spent .56-50 cartridges were found at the Ft. Sedgwick battlefield (1860's). This listing is for Ten cartidges.
Spencer rifles were common issue to soldiers of the civil war.
There is no Headstamp'ing on Spencer cartridges. Unique by the edge of the shell, from the firing pin strike.
During the very early Indian battles, Ft. Sedgwick (Fort depicted in the movie - Dances with Wolves) had up to 700 men there trying to help protect the South Platte stage coach line & western frontier to Denver and attacks from Indians.
The Cartridges are partially collapsed, because soldiers were ordered from Washington to crush all catridges by foot, etc. It was well known the indians were retriving used cartridges to repurpose them again for the next battle.
Cartridges are in various degrees of flattening.
These items were found on private property, with the permission of the owners. Site is now closed to anyone.
These items have passed our meticulous quality checks and are guaranteed to be in great condition.
