CONFEDERATE STATES WHITWORTH SNIPERS BULLET .451 PRESTINE CONDITION

The  Whitworth was designed by Joseph Whitworth in England & patented in 1854. Without a doubt the Whitworth rifle & bullet were the most accurate & deadly rifles used during the American Civil War.  This may be a Bannerman piece. You hear northerners with high claims from the Berdan Sharpshooters which for the North was the best but the truth is they were not in the same league as a Whitworth rifles. Also most Berdan Sharpshooters were killed by Confederate soldiers shooting the Whitworth. Most people don't know but very few Kerr rifles was also used as Confederate sniper guns & shot the Whitworth design bullets but the Whitworth was superior to the Kerr also.1st picture with 2 rifles are Whitworth with scope mounted on top & side the 2nd picture is of a Kerr Whitworth bullet design gun. The next to last picture is of the smaller Kerr bullet compared to a fired Whitworth bullet. Last picture is a figure of a Confederate sniper hidden on his perch. Added 1 more exame at very end found on Bannerman island.he Whitworth was highly effective even with open sights that would elevate for long range shooting but for the really long kills past a 1000 yards thr scoped Whitworth was more effective.  General Lee at 1 time said he would rather have his 13 Confederate snipers with Whitworth guns over any than any regiment in the army. That's really saying another of how highly effective and deadly they were. A Georgia sniper at the end of the war claimed he had killed Yankees from 20 paces away all the way up to a mile. He won a shooting contest that consisted of him & 12 more snipers. Target was a 2x2 foot white board with a black diamond on it about the size of a egg set up at 1500 yards the day was a cool windy day unfavorable for target shooting but he still put 3 rounds in the black bulls eye & 7 into the white outer biarder.boarder. He beat the previous record and won the choice of a horse or bridal or revolver pistol spurs or a Sabre or gun. Confederate snipers used a sneak attack on Union Sharpshooters there would be 2 soldiers together & one would put their hat on a stick & raise it in the air & when the Union Sharpshooters stuck their head up to shoot the other Confederate sniper would shoot him in the head. And said another one bites the dust. A horrible death for many Union soldiers.
