) after-market molded cable-connector assemblies.
Being a 100% genuine GE part, the performance is absolutely to the OEM specifications as opposed to after-market (non-OEM) cable assemblies. The molded connector of non-OEM cable does not match perfectly in dimensions with the female connector (socket) on the fetal monitor and in few mating cycles, the female socket pins get loosened that lead to
intermittent problems as depicted

The brass material from the molded connector pins starts peeling off increasing contact resistance that cause huge drift in Toco base line, spurious contraction waveform even when there is no actual contraction and ultimately could result misinterpretation as fetus not being under stress while fetus heart rate is high. The cheap resin material used for the molding connector, forms complex impedances between the contact pins that keep varying with environmental factors (temp., moisture) and the leakage current results in unstable base line. The moisture intrudes through strain relief end of the non-OEM cable assembly which is another major contributing factor for the huge Toco base line drift as the SMD components on circuit board are sensitive to moisture. Nursing staff have to repeatedly keep manipulating Toco transducer base line setting that cause great degree of discomfort to the expecting mom. The cost of non-OEM cable assembly is

times cheaper but repeated failures makes it at least

times more expensive as compared to OEM replacement.
