    1970s Homemade Double Cut Electric Guitar Body and Neck
    A wonderful and weird guitar with a great story!
    I came across this guitar in a trade for a leather jacket. I call, as the others before me, this guitar "The Ed". Because all anyone knows is that some guy named Ed built it. There is much more to the story with this guitar which I will relay to the buyer, in hopes of that person keeping the story going. From the story and from the parts that were on the guitar I would date the guitar to around 1977.
    Now for the details;
    The guitar comes as a neck and body with no parts other than 4 neck bolts.
    The neck has a definite outline of a Hofner logo at the top of the headstock. The headstock seems to have had a break at some point. I have had strings on the guitar and the headstock repair is stable with no movement or separation at all. The truss rod is functioning correctly. Some finish is flaking on the fingerboard. The frets are medium/jumbo and there is wear but it is not in need of a refret. It is bolted to the body with 4 screws but seems to have been glued in as well. The neck angle was good when the guitar was set up with strings. It has a 24 3/4" scale length, 1 9/16" nut width, 24 frets, and a 12" radius. The neck is 0.837" deep at the 1st fret and 0.978" deep at the 12th fret. There are some circular dents and dings on and around the 22nd fret. The story about that will be relayed to the buyer.
    The body is the coolest part of the guitar. It is a pancake style body consisting of 3 tiers. The center tier is almost entirely hollow, giving it a chambered feeling. The pickup routes are sized for P-90s or Minibuckers with a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe style pickup ring. It has 5 holes in the electronics cavity, presumably for 2 volumes, 2 tones, and a 3 way switch. It is set up for a tune-o-matic and stop tail bridge assembly. The bridge posts, bushings, or inserts are threaded to 10-32" and spaced at 2 15/16". The tailpiece posts, bushings, or inserts are threaded to 5/16-24" and spaced at 3 1/4". So it will work with any USA Gibson style parts. There is also a bronze sun, in splendor or in his glory, affixed the the body. We will call him Ed. Ed will stay with the guitar. It looks like the body had been spaced for a different kind of neck mounting pattern but was dowelled and redrilled at some point.
    Overall the husk weighs in at light 6lbs 8.9oz.
    I am selling this guitar as a project and have tried to relay any problems or defects with the guitar. It is used and shows signs of it including nicks, dings, dents, scrapes, bumps, bruises, and rock and roll abuse.
