    Description

    RARE, original Civil War era 12 gauge pin fire shotgun shell.  Unused and never filled.  EMPTY.  While I never found any evidence that these were used in battle by the north or south, they absolutely date to the period.  Produced by E.B. of London which is nicely embossed on the bottom.  These worked in the same way the French pin fire revolver and cartridges did.  The hammer of the shotgun would strike the protruding pin which was its percussion, and igniting the powder within to expel the shot.  I must have for any Civil War cartridge collector.  Condition is as pictured.
