    Scarce Civil War Relic .50 Berdan’s Sharpshooter’s Bullet Found in New Kent County, Virginia.
    The unfired ball mics at .47 & would have been loaded into a .50 bench rest rifle with a patch. When the range was accurate, these 28-30 lb. telescoped rifles were accurate up to 800 yards. This ball, used by two companies of the regiment, was found in New Kent County Virginia some fifty years ago at the site where Berdans men camped. (Also found there was a scarce bullet starter.)
    It was not until May & June of 1862 that the regiment was issued the M1859 Sharps Rifle. Beleive it or not, most of the companies of the regiment were armed with the Colt Revolving Rifle, but two companies were armed with the heavy rifles
