This replica of Jane Austens’ Doorway at 25 Gay St. in Bath, England.
This is one of the series of existing Front Entrance Doors to or Gates to homes and public buildings.
The doorways and gates are the first impression of the buildings and very indicative of their architectural styles.
This one for example is the door to the Georgian town house is made famous by its association to Jane Austen.
Built of Bath stone the terraced row leads up to the circus and The Royal Crescent. Living here one could not help but engage in and observe Bath society as featured in many of her novels.
This model was developed as Tim wished to include the house of one of Baths most famous inhabitants. The pediment over the doorway is covered in beaten lead, a detail replicated in the model.
I believe this one is still available from the studio and you can look it up on line.
This model measures 3.5” wide X 2.5” deep X 7.5” tall, and made of hand carved hard English plaster and marked by the studio.
