    Very Rare .63 Civil War Relic Confederate Ball for the .63 Brunswick Rifle

    I can find no examples of this ball but it is decidedly Confederate. T & T (Page 63, item 1812a.) shows an ungrooved ball made at the Charleston Arsenal, but not this one. Check out the mold seam . . . it was base cast. The recovery site is unknown, but in Central Virginia. The cut on the nose may have been added by the soldier to aid in expansion. This rare beauty mics at .62 for loading in a .63 Brunswick Rifle.
