Description
------- Vintage, miniature souvenir building, it’s a box with a hinged lid, in the form of The UNITED STATES CAPITOL BUILDING, in Washington, DC (District of Columbia), USA. Captioned on front base as shown.
Quality casting, highly detailed, by the Jennings Brothers Metal Foundry of Bridgeport CT, circa 1920s. Their initial mark on base, with a number indicating the model number (not a year).
No exact match to this building in Majua and Weingarten’s Monumental Miniatures guide, however plate 1085, shows a very similarly cast piece, albeit smaller, and in a different plating variation, by another maker.
The base metal is lead, with a bright nickel plating.
Substantial & heavy for size
Size - 5-1/8” long x 3-1/2” wide x 3-3/4” tall
Shown with a large lemon, for scale
Interior compartment is 4” x 1-1/2” x 1-1/4” deep
weighs about 1 pound 12+ ounces,
