FROM THE WILLIAM A. REGER COLLECTION - A very nice relic condition Civil War fired .577 caliber Confederate CS Gardner 2-Ring Bullet, including a copy of the original type writer typed tag that accompanied this grouping of relics.
This very nice relic condition Civil War fired .577 caliber Confederate CS Gardner 2-Ring Bullet was recovered in 1968 from the Battlefield of White Oak Swamp - (Frayser's Farm - Glendale, Virginia) by William A. Reger of Berks County, Pennsylvania. This artifact was in a large Pennsylvania collection of carefully identified relics that were recovered in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Reger passed away in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2011.
The fighting at White Oak Swamp was really connected to the larger battle known as Glendale or Frayser's Farm. The Battle of Glendale took place on June 30th, 1862 - the sixth day of the famous Seven Days Battles. Although it is not as well known as Malvern Hill or Gaines' Mill, the battle was intense, involving over 80,000 troops and almost 7500 combined casualties. We will include a letter containing the specific provenance information.
We included as much documentation with the relics as we possess. This includes copies of tags if there are identification tags or maps, as well as a signed letter of provenance with the specific recovery information.
All of the collections that we are offering for sale are guaranteed to be authentic and are either older recoveries, found before the 1960s when it was still legal to metal detect battlefields, or were recovered on private property with permission. Some land on Battlefields that are now Federally owned, or owned by the Trust, were acquired after the items were recovered. We will not sell any items that were recovered illegally, nor will we sell any items that we suspect were recovered illegally.
