Williams Cleaner type 3 in dropped condition from Shiloh in case with COA
Type 3 Williams Cleaner from the Battle of Shiloh
A dropped type 3 bullet that was found at the Battle of Shiloh Tennessee. There were three types of Williams Cleaners made for the Union Army during the Civil War. Type 1 the earliest, and type 3 the last. The idea being that when the gun was fired the ring at the base of the bullet would clean any deposits in the rifling of the gun barrel. The idea worked better than the bullet itself, but was nonetheless produced till the end of the war. Type 1 is rare. Type 2 is extremely rare, and type 3 is the most common.
Each bullet comes in matted display case stating bullet type and location where found.
